This year, our family are celebrating 50 years at The Fish Inn. But a little while before we had the pleasure of taking on the role as curators of this historic hotel, it was home to the 18th century’s version of an overnight sensation: Mary Robinson. She became known as the
Beauty of Buttermere due to being the inspiration of poets including Wordsworth and Coleridge. The Fish Inn became the destination of cho

Travellers braved the winding and precarious roads just to catch a glimpse of the Cumbrian Beauty; whom as result of her lack of any worldly experience, possessed an unadorned innocence which was unchanged despite being cast into the spotlight.
